How can Christianity claim to be the only way to God?
Short answer
Every worldview makes exclusive claims, including the claim that all religions are equal. Religions disagree on basic questions, so they cannot all be true. Christianity's claim rests on Jesus' identity and resurrection, and its way is open to everyone as a free gift.
In simple words: Different religions say very different things, so they cannot all be right. Jesus said he is the way, and anyone can come to him.
Response
The claim that only one way leads to God can sound arrogant. But it is worth looking carefully at the alternatives.
The major religions do not teach the same thing. They disagree about whether God is personal, whether Jesus died on the cross, what happens after death, and how we are saved. Saying that all religions are equally true requires ignoring what they actually teach.
The statement "all religions lead to God" is itself an exclusive claim. It says those who believe there is only one way are wrong. Everyone believes some views are mistaken.
Christianity's exclusive claim is not "we are better than others." It is about who Jesus is. If Jesus really rose from the dead, his claim to be "the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6) deserves to be taken seriously.
And the way is wide open. Salvation is not earned by being the right kind of person; it is a gift offered to everyone, regardless of background. That is the opposite of arrogance.
Key evidence
- World religions disagree on core questions such as the nature of God, salvation, and the identity of Jesus.
- "All paths are equal" is itself a truth claim that excludes other views.
- Christianity's distinctive claim rests on a historical event, the resurrection, that can be investigated.

- Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else.
