David and the Giant

1 Samuel 17

A young shepherd boy trusts God and faces a giant that no one else would fight.

David the Shepherd

David was a young shepherd boy. He took care of his father's sheep and protected them from lions and bears. David trusted God.

A Giant Problem

God's people, the Israelites, were at war. Every day a giant named Goliath shouted, "Who will fight me?" He was over nine feet tall! Everyone was scared.

I Will Go!

David brought food to his brothers and heard Goliath. "I will fight him," said David. "God saved me from the lion and the bear. He will save me from this giant!"

Five Smooth Stones

King Saul offered David his armor, but it was too big. Instead, David picked up five smooth stones from a stream and took his sling.

The Battle Is the Lord's

Goliath laughed at David. But David said, "I come to you in the name of the Lord!" He swung his sling, and the stone hit Goliath right on the forehead!

Victory!

The giant fell down! God's people cheered. Everyone knew that God had helped David win.

“The battle is the Lord's.”

1 Samuel 17:47

When you feel small, remember that God is big! You can trust him when you are scared.
